Currently, she works on abstract expressionist and on impressionist paintings in acrylic, oil, and watercolor.  Impressionist painting subjects include mostly landscapes, animals, and still life, done in vivid colors with bold strokes, sometimes with exaggerated shapes and nonrealistic colors. Abstract paintings are done intuitively.  They come entirely from within, and the result is always unexpected. Her paintings are all about colors and shapes.  

 

Donna finds her inspiration mostly from the work of other artists, especially Hans Hofmann, Pierre Bonnard, Emily Mason, Brian Rutenberg, and Gerhard Richter.  For the sheer joy of it, she loves looking at ancient art, especially from Egypt, Greece, and Rome.

 

She took ongoing painting classes at the New School (NYC), and with Lassie Corbett (VA), Nadine Allen (VA), Ed Ramsburg (MD), Sarah Abel-DeLuca (MD), Rusty Hughes (NC), Chappy Valente (NC), Joseph Bardani (NC), and Ortrud Tyler (NC).  She also took workshops with many well-known artists, including Margaret Hall Hoybach, Skip Lawrence, Janet Walsh, Mary Ann Beckwith, Marilyn Hughey Phillis, Mary Todd Beam, Carrie Brown, Kirah Van Sickle, Joe DiGiulio, Joanne Geisel, and David Kessler.  

 

Donna's work has been juried into shows locally, regionally, and nationally, and she's won many awards for watercolor, acrylic, oil, and mixed media. Donna was born and raised in Queens, NY, she's lived in several states and now lives in Southport, NC. Besides her career, art has always been a way for me to connect with other people from all over the country.
